The Half-Way Mark: Mental Health Month

This week officially marks the half-way point of Mental Health Month.

Founded by Mental Health America in 1949, this years themes “Do More for 1 in 4″ and “Healing Trauma’s Invisible Wounds,” focus on the impact of traumatic events on individuals and communities. It centers around asking the person-based question: “What happened to you?”

American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting 2012, Philadelphia

It has been quite a busy month as I continue to address “what happened to me” via my journey in sharing preview screenings of HERE ONE DAY. This month we screened the film at The American Psychiatric Association’s Annual Meeting where we screened the almost-finished version of the film with over 100 psychiatrists and residency program directors. The response was amazing. People are so excited about this film! As I have the pleasure of meeting and collaborating with amazing organizations and people who want to use HERE ONE DAY to educate, support, and heal, this month takes on a whole new meaning for me. I look forward to sharing the finished film with you all very soon.

We’re closing in on the finish line!

We have an incredibly talented team and the creative momentum to finish. The only thing holding us back are the funds. Please contribute. It’s tax-deductible and would be of tremendous help. Your donation can be made through our 501c3 fiscal sponsor, Women Make Movies, by clicking here. Also, if you know of any foundations, funds, or individuals that might be interested in supporting this extraordinary project, please email me atkathy@twosunsmedia.com.

Are you on Facebook?

If so, we would love for you to check out the fan page for HERE ONE DAY and support us by “liking” it. “Liking” our page is a great way to show your support for the film and to continue reducing stigma around mental illness and suicide.

When this happens, insurance coverage for mental or substance-use disorders will be on par with coverage offered for physical ailments. Click here for more info from AFSP.
